Dennis at Viking Diving: The Coolest German on Hvar?

Although it is unlikely I will ever scuba dive, I do enjoy my visits to the Viking Diving centre. It was probably my favourite moment of the day when I was delivering guidebooks around the island in 34 degrees of heat. Having delivered to Hotel Podstine, I thought I would pop down and say hi to Dennis and the team.
As usual he was topless and working away on the terrace, surrounded by tourists sunbathing on the excellent new terrace and chatting away with him. Viking is in an idyllic spot and almost in isolation apart from the hotel, and the chilled welcome was matched by a refreshing breeze.

I first met Dennis a few months ago over a beer. Very friendly guy, passionate about diving and always up for a bit of fun. I watched as he and the rest of the Viking team made their extensive preparations for the new season, including the construction of the terrace, which is fast becoming one of my favourite places on the island.

A combination of the view, the terrace, the tranquillity and the very warm welcome makes it a great place to hang out.

Of course, diving is the main business at Viking, and I was surprised to learn just how multilingual the centre is, with instructors proficient in English, German, Dutch, Italian, Croatian and Russian.

I don't think I have ever seen Dennis fully dressed, and it is not uncommon to find some female tourists lying close to him as he works away.

Great guy and a great dive centre from the many reports back I have had. And as for that terrace...
