Hvar Carnival 2012: Stari Grad Kindergarten Does Shakira

There was a very festive family atmosphere in Stari Grad today, as the town's kindergarten and school children put on some live performances as part of the carnival celebrations. The event, held in a large tent erected by the entrance to the old town, was well attended by local families in an impressive array of fancy dress costumes.

First up were the kindergarten troupe, who put on an enthusiastic rendition of Shakira's blockbuster, It's Time for Africa (video of their version is below), before the schoolchildren impressed with some line dancing in cowboy attire.

The music was followed by a very successful male and female double act from Srecko and Lola the clowns, which had the 100 plus children enthralled before they were sent on their way with animal balloons and face painting.

Refreshments were available, but could not be bought with the usual currency, but a special exchange office was available to change kuna into the money of the day, the Jure, with 5 kuna buying 1 jure.

A fantastic effort from the organisers and Stari Grad Municipality for a very well-organised and enjoyable day. For more information on carnival events in Jelsa and Stari Grad, click here
