Hvar WiFi Revolution: zzzzapp! Arrives on Hvar, 10 Installations
A very useful free tourist information service arrived on Hvar yesterday, the first location in the world for the installation of award-winning zzzzapp! software outside of the company's home town of Split.
Fresh from its first prize at Startup Live Split last week, zzzzapp! has sold its first franchise - the island of Hvar - and its technicians were busy visiting various prime locations on the island in the last 24 hours, installing the hardware, which will be followed shortly by the sortware - and then the fun will really begin.
The island's first zzzzapp! installation was at Hvar Touristik in Stari Grad, whose signal now covers the bus station, allowing tourists to browse fresh Hvar information and special offers - updated daily - wherever they see a zzzzapp! logo, such as this one at Hula Hula in Hvar Town.
An initial installation of ten locations was completed this afternoon, with a second wave of 15-20 locations due in the next fortnight. Locations installed so far are:
Eis Caffe Jelsa
Me and Mrs Jones
So what exactly is zzzzapp! and why should you check a (free) zzzzapp! network when you find one on your available networks? Quite simply, it is a landing page of rich, relevant and current information, filled with special offers which will enable you to get the most out of your Hvar holiday. No password required to login and find out the deals of the day, last minute accommodation, and the latest events, with no commitment to spend money.
All zzzzapp! hosts will have special offers for zzzzapp! WiFi users, which can be redeemed at the location, so it is worth browsing the zzzzapp! network wherever you see the sign above. But apart from the attraction of offers, there will also be very useful information about Hvar, all available without passwords. Examples of such info are: Jadrolinija ferry timetable, 5-day weather forecast, currency rates, your daily Total Hvar blog and more. All freely available on your smart phone or laptop, just by clicking on an available zzzzapp! network.
Above is an example of a real landing page hosted by the Tourist Board of Split (in case anyone thinks this is illegal). Quite simply, the host controls the banner at the top, where he promotes his special offers with revolving banners, with hyperlinks to pages with more information. There is also a group of useful links for tourist information - weather, ferries etc. And in the middle, some more revolving banners with deals and offers for Hvar tourists right here right now!
Are you a cocktail bar who would like to promote a happy hour to everyone in the main square in Hvar? A zzzzapp! advert will get you the best targeted coverage imaginable, backed up with a report of hits and click throughs.
As more locations sign up for the service, so zzzzapp!'s quality free information and great offers will be available in more places. With its enhanced signal, zzzzapp! hosts will not only be able to advertise special offers and deals to its existing guests, but also further afield. The quality of the range depends on the quality and position of the host router, but Gariful for example now covers the Hvar harbour, making its advertising available to all the boats coming into Hvar. Powerful.
We will be writing MUCH more about zzzzapp! in the coming weeks. With today's ten successful installations, Phase 1 is complete. Phase 2 will be complete with the landing pages populated by actual special offers and fresh local info. All zzzzapp! networks are prefixed with zzzzapp! to make them easy to find in the crowd, so Hula Hula network is called zzzzapp! Hula Hula, for example.
Once the pages are populated with actual offers in a few days, we will blog again, but look out for the zzzzapp! signs on Hvar this summer to find out where the party is at, and where the deals are to be found.
