New for 2012: Hvar Open Tour, A Hop On Hop Off Double Decker

I will confess I didn't believe it when I first heard the news yesterday, but having found out who is behind the project and spoken to the local owner, we are delighted to announce something highly unique for the island's tourism, and something that will be of great benefit for tourists wanting to move around the island and experience other places - the Hvar Open Tour, a hop-on, hop-off double decker bus from Hvar Town to Jelsa, starting next week!

For a daily ticket price of just 75 kuna, one can leave Hvar Town in the morning, pop into Stari Grad, then back on the next bus and sample some organic produce in the UNESCO Stari Grad Plain, then into Vrboska and/or Jelsa, before heading back to Hvar. Based in Jelsa and looking for the Hvar nighttime action? No problem - some special night services are also available.

The yellow bus, which spent last summer in Zadar, is currently being repainted but will be on the island shortly, and the main Hvar - Jelsa route will start on June 1 and run until October 1, departing from Hvar every two hours from 08:30 to 18:30.

The bus will stop in Stari Grad, then by the road on the edge of the Stari Grad Plain, where tourists wanting to indulge in a little agro-tourism will be met by a man on a donkey who will lead you into the UNESCO zone and a choice of tastings of cheeses, olives and wine. Continue on to Vrboska and Jelsa. The last daytime departure from Jelsa will be at 19:30 back to Hvar. BUT...

If you are staying in Jelsa or Vrboska, you have the chance to enjoy Hvar Town's legendary nightlife without the worry of driving. Two buses will leave Jelsa at 22:00 (Vrboska 22:10) and 00:00 (Vrboska 00:10), returning at 04:00 and 06:00 - this nightime service will start on June 20 and run through until September 1.

More information coming as soon as we get it. We understand that tickets will be on sale via tourist agencies and other outlets, and we will publish more details when we receive the full package, which will hopefully be tomorrow.

Apart from the chance for people to enjoy Hvar Town's nightlife, there is also the possibility for people in Hvar to take an evening out in other parts of the island. A great initiative, and I look forward to seeing it in operation.
