Spraying to control flies and mosquitoes

Notice: Ekocijan Pest Control

Zagreb firm Ekocijan is responsible for pest control in the areas of Stari Grad and Jelsa. At intervals, they spray pesticides along the streets and around the rubbish dumps against flies and mosquitoes. As required by law, they inform people in the area about the spraying in advance, and notices appear in the local paper, on local websites and on the Town Council noticeboards.

The next spraying will take place in the Stari Grad area, including Vrbanj and Dol, on Tuesday 31st July 2012, between 22:00 and 06:00 the next morning. The next night, Wednesday 1st August 2012, the action will be around Jelsa and the outlying villages of Vrboska, Pitve, Vrisnik, Svirče, Zavala, Ivan Dolac, Poljica, Zastražišće and Gdinj. In the case of bad weather, the spraying is put back by one day.

The firm states that the pesticides are harmless to warm-blooded creatures, but gives the warning that people with breathing problems should shut their windows and bee-keepers should keep their bees enclosed. (The pesticides used are presumably neonicotinoids: the firm does not state what they are in its warning.)
