Restaurant of the Day: Marinero in Hvar Town

Of all the restaurants I have been fortunate to dine in on Hvar this summer, there was nothing quite like the evening at Marinero. A combination of wonderful courtyard location, great seafood and among the best prices in downtown Hvar Town, all served with an awesome efficiency as group after group were served excellent fare in the plentiful outside space.

The restaurant's motto is 'From the sea to the table' and that is exactly what happens, as the owners - who have a large fish processing business - have a philosophy of providing quality food at great prices, with good, quick service and a large turnover of tables. It is perfect for groups who are looking for a good dining experience in central Hvar which will not cost a fortune.

So how are the prices? A tuna steak for 60 kuna, a plate of mussels for 50 kuna. Both delicious. An added bonus is the quality of the vegetables, which all come from the family's agro-tourism business in the historic Stari Grad Plain, where  they produce more than a hectare of organic vegetables. It is a great combination of fish and vegetables sourced by the family, who are on hand every night serving the food with the other waiting staff. Great seafood in a lovely courtyard with backdrop to St Mark's Church, and probably the best value fish dining experience in the town.

To find Marinero, walk from the main square towards Hotel Adriana and you will find the restaurant (and hostel) Marinero in a side street on the right.
