Sail into Vrbsoka, Dine at Bonaca

Vrboska is a sailing paradise, and one which is becoming more popular every year. Its capacity has been expanded to provide more moorings, as Hvar continues to attract more nautical tourism. Apart from its sheltered bay, Vrboska offers its guests great beaches, a picturesque old town and canal, plenty of history. And great food.

The good news for sailors is that you do not have to walk very far for a very good feed - right opposite where your boat is moored, to be exact. Konoba Bonaca is located close to the main marina building, and offers great seafood (and meat) right by the marina. It is a favourite of the yachting community.

Choose between the covered terrace and inside space on the ground floor to catch the goings on at street level, or better - head up the steps for the spacious and leafy top terrace, which affords great views over the harbour, and has a very relaxed atmosphere. Given the generous space available, there is room for kids to wander around in safety, allowing you to enjoy your meal.

The fish is fantastic, as one would expect from a front-row restaurant, and so are the patés. If you have never tried lobster paté before, now is your chance.

A word too on the wine list, which is focused exlusively on Hvar's wines, which are beginning to attract international attention. Red and wine table wine starts at 70 kuna a litre, while some wines to look out for on the list include an extremely popular Opolo Nobile rosé from Andro Tomić (the best-selling wine in one of Hvar Town's most popular waterfront restaurants), the Ivan Dolac Barrique which won organic gold in Germany, Croatia's only Grand Cru from Zlatan Otok, and a very drinkable Plovac Ploški from Carić.

A warm welcome from very friendly hosts in an ideal location with great views and food - make sure you sail into Vrboska soon! Contact Bonaca on +385 (0)91 5219929
