Support Hvar's Newest and Sweetest Event: The First Honey Festival

After the success of the lavender festival in Velo Grablje and the Bogdanusa evening in Svirce, attention for natural Hvar lovers will soon be focused on Stari Grad with the inaugural Days of Honey of the Island of Hvar, which will take place on July 24-26 in the square Ploca, each evening from 19:00 - 24:00.
The event is being organised by the Levanda Beekeepers Association, with main sponsor the Split-Dalmatia county, as well as the town of Stari Grad and the Stari Grad Tourist Board.

I was involved a little in the discussions for the festival a few months ago when it was suggested, as I was when the island's first honey tour was put together (available through Hvar Touristik at the bus station in Stari Grad), and it is really encouraging to see new initiatives such as this - it is what makes Hvar so special for me.
For those of you who do not know much about honey, it will be a great family event, as well as an eduction. And for those of you wondering about the quality of Hvar honey, Boris Buratovic came fourth in the 2011 Apimondia in Argentina last year with his rosemary honey. We will post more details of the event as we get them, but please put in your diaries to help make the event a success and therefore an annual event.
